5k/10k Wrigley Start Early Run

April 26, 2012 | Chicago, IL

It was the best of times, it was the worst of…wait no, actually it was just a really great time! It was chilly but sunny and gorgeous on Saturday, April 21st when Team Erie laced up their running shoes for the Wrigley Start Early Run. This was the third year that Team Erie assembled to run the 5k/10k and it was our most successful year to date.

This year’s Team Erie consisted of seventeen students, volunteers, staff members, and friends of Erie who raised over $3,300 for Erie programs. These individuals got out of bed early on a chilly Saturday morning to show their support for Erie and take on the winds of Lake Michigan. This year we were lucky to have two mentor/mentee pairs from our TEAM program to support the TEAM Scholarship Fund. We also had our TEAM Mentors, Ed Abante and Angel Carreno, raise over $650 each for the TEAM Scholarship Fund. One of Erie’s amazing Mennonite volunteers, Justin Hochstetler, came in third overall in the 5k run! Also, one of TEAM mentees, Alan Rueda, ran an impressive 10k beating out all other Tem Erie runners and receiving much earned congratulations from other race participants.

While we might have had a couple minor injuries and some general soreness the next day, all the runners and cheerleaders had a wonderful time. This year’s Wrigley Run was a great success not simply because of the money it raised but also because it brought together Erie supporters in a fun and physically challenging (at least for some of us!) show of solidarity. Thank you to all our amazing runners and everyone who supported them!
