Erie Neighborhood House’s 2014 Future of Promise/Futuro de Promesa Awards Dinner
April 28, 2014 | Chicago, IL
On April 10th the Fairmont Chicago hosted Erie Neighborhood House’s 2014 Future of Promise/Futuro de Promesa Awards Dinner. With over 400 people in attendance, the event was a tremendous success. We’re pleased to announce, that thanks to the generosity and support of our donors, our overall fundraising goal of $300,000 was surpassed by over $60,000; a 5% increase over last year’s event! Of this total, an astounding $77,000 was donated on the spot during the Dinner’s exciting paddle raise.
The focus of the evening was Erie’s work around the community element of immigration, taking an in-depth look at how Erie’s Citizenship & Immigration Program educates and enriches the quality of life for families to significantly and positively impact the overall health of America’s workforce and the community, one person at a time.
Erie House YOU program participant and DACA recipient, Joanna Hernández, spoke at the event and attested to the importance of Erie in her life saying “there’s always a way, if you want it, you’ll find it.” After Hernández’s moving speech, two kindhearted donors surprised her with $5,000 annual scholarships – for a total of $40,000 - to help ensure her college success.
As part of the awards ceremony, Erie House was honored to present Jessie H. Ruiz, Partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath with the Community Leader Award; Monterrey Security Consultants with the Corporate Partner Award; and The Illinois Business Immigration Coalition with the Community Innovator Award.
Erie House would like to thank the many generous sponsors and attendees who helped make this event such an overwhelming success.
