FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 16, 2016 | Chicago, IL
Erie Neighborhood House will host its fifth annual My Wellness, Our Community fair next month in Little Village. The free one-day resource fair will expand its footprint in the community this year, encompassing both the 4200 block of W 25th St and the 2500 block of S Keeler Ave.
WHAT: My Wellness, Our Community, a street festival offering resources for holistic wellness
WHEN: Saturday, June 25th, 10:30 am – 3:30 pm
WHERE: 4200 block of W 25th St, Chicago, Illinois 60623
WHO: Organized by Erie Neighborhood House, the event is supported by a variety of community partners offering free health screenings, resources and information to local residents.
Now in its fifth year, the My Wellness, Our Community fair has steadily grown since its inception in 2012, reaching several hundred residents each year.
“The fair provides resources that are extremely valuable to the community we serve,” says Erie House executive director Kirstin Chernawsky. She adds that access to resources such as information and screenings is one of the key factors contributing to health disparities among Latinos in the US. “We want to work with community partners to help reduce this disparity in whatever ways we can.”

In addition to its size increase, this year’s fair will move from its traditional Friday date to take place on a Saturday. “We wanted to make sure we reach more families this year,” explains Cristina Balderas, program assistant for Buen HOGAR at Erie House. This is the first time Balderas has served as coordinator for the wellness fair, and she is excited about the opportunity to connect with people in the community. “I enjoy seeing so many people come together,” she says.
Balderas says she anticipates more than 40 vendors at the family-friendly event, providing what she describes as a “kaleidoscope of services” to residents of Little Village, Cicero, Berwyn and beyond.
She adds that the fair takes a holistic approach to wellness, addressing physical health in addition to other important topics such as financial health and emotional wellbeing. “Sometimes by having an event like this, you can really make an impact on families in the community,” she says.
Event sponsors include Aetna, Erie Neighborhood House, Oak Street Health, Project VIDA, Rush University Medical Center, Shining Smiles, Walgreens and Working Bikes.
