Community Literacy
Because communication is the building block of relationships.
Learning to communicate effectively is one of the most important things we teach here at Erie House. Not only does it impact the career opportunities available to our community, it’s also a building block for developing relationships – both personal and professional.
Erie's Community Literacy program offers one-on-one and small group tutoring for over 300 students annually who are reading at or below the eighth grade level. Tutoring sessions focus on oral and written comprehension through focused one-on-one sessions with qualified volunteers.
This project was made possible by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using state funds designated for literacy.
