Rules and Regulations

Dress Code

Our dress code will be casual, but professional. Appropriate attire is required at all times according to position and the particular circumstances.

Your Responsibilities as a Tutor

To ensure that you and your student get the most from your tutoring sessions, we ask that you adhere to a few basic rules:

Please be punctual each week. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment with a student, we ask to please notify the volunteer coordinator and if possible your student as well. Please report to the volunteer office to sign in and to sign out before each tutoring session. This is very important. The sign-in book is on the volunteer coordinator’s desk with the forms for both students and tutors organized by the days of the week.

We ask for your participation in some activities such as monthly potlucks, monthly trainings and the volunteer recognition event held once a year. We have trainings that are provided by Literacy Works two Saturdays per month from 10:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After completion you receive a 12 hrs training certificate. To register for the Literacy works

training, you can let us know at least two days prior to the training to allow for preparation. Please let us know if you are attending the ESL or GED training. We also offer an online ESL training course; if interested please ask to register you. We ask for your commitment to tutoring for at least 6 months and 2 hours per week as a minimum. Keep us informed of how we can contact you, and call us whenever you have questions. We work hard to make our matches work, so if you need assistance with lesson planning, interpersonal issues with your student, or scheduling, please let us know!
