Bright Promises Foundation, who has supported Erie House's Health Initiative program: Super H for the last three years invited our children to be a part of their grantee reception at Sub-Zero/Wolf showroom at the Merchandise Mart. Bright Promises Foundation asked Erie House's Super H program to showcase the progress that was made during their funding phase, including: artifacts from the program's curriculum and to be available to take pictures with the children as they engaged people talking about what they had learned. The event was attended by the Bright Promises staff and board of directors, other social service agencies in the city of Chicago and supporters of the initiatives of Bright Promises.
Osana Fonseca, Aramis Fonseca and Ian Bermudez (pictured here) have all participated in the Super H, after-school Program and their knowledge of healthy food and habits were put to the test by the patrons in attendance that evening. The adults present at the event asked many questions about the program and the charismatic children answered all their questions unassisted. Erie House was given space where the children explained the objects they routinely used to learn; there was a wide range of Super Food placemats, warrior necklaces, even a yogurt parfait that was made with the kids’ homemade granola. The funders could not believe the retention of information the children possessed and how comfortable they were talking with adults, which solidifies a key lesson of Super H: self-esteem.
The experience for the children was very important as they are able to interact in a different setting while mingling with people that one day will be peers as they are engaging and enhancing the community.
