Chicago, IL – July 1, 2013—The Erie Neighborhood House (ENH) housing program, Buen HOGAR: A Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Latino Outreach Initiative, is partnering with the following organizations to coordinate a Housing Resource Pavilion at the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council’s (PNCC) 41st Annual Fiesta del Sol (FDS):
Department of Housing, and Urban Development, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Illinois Department of Human Rights, Neighborhood Housing Services-Back of the Yards, Metropolitan Tenant’s Organization, Access Living, Lawyers Committee for Better Housing, John Marshall Legal Support Clinic, Ayuda Legal, Legal Assistance Foundation, The Resurrection Project, Metropolitan Tenants Organization, Latin United Community Housing Association, and Chicago Commission on Human Rights.
Erie House, a leader in social services for over 140 years, spearheaded the collaboration of these 14 housing organizations in an effort to bring much needed resources to the Latino community. Through a recent partnership with the Chicago Housing Authority, Erie House’s Buen HOGAR program is engaging organizations in collaboration, resource sharing, and facilitating access to affordable housing opportunities and services to Latinos in Chicago.
While other policy issues such as the economy, immigration and education may top the list of important issues to the Latino community, housing continues to be a prevalent issue for many Latino families facing foreclosure, difficulties finding affordable and quality housing, and / or dealing with tenant/landlord issues. The Housing Resource Pavilion at the PNCC Fiesta del Sol will serve to address pertinent housing issues in the Latino community.
Fiesta del Sol is Pilsen Neighbors Community Council’s (PNCC) primary fundraising event to fund its community organizing and service programming throughout the year. PNCC focuses primarily on community organizing. A core goal of community organizing is to generate power to influence key decision-makers on a range of issues. PNCC works on immigration reform, education reform, work force development and healthcare. PNCC also offers services such as: an ACT Preparation Program, the Guadalupe A. Reyes, Fiesta del Sol Scholarship, and an Immigration Legal Clinic.
